Choosing a Golf Course in Vancouver

choosing a golf course.jpgVancouver offers a wide range of excellent golf courses from expert courses designed to challenge the most skillful golfer to municipal courses offering more intimate settings that are beginner and intermediate-friendly with some public courses offering expert level challenges.  So choosing a golf course in Vancouver is a matter of personal taste as well as the practical considerations of your skill level and the amount of time and money you want to spend on the golf course.

If you are a beginner, start off on courses that are shorter in length and less expensive to play.  As you progress to intermediate status you will find yourself wanting a more challenging layout with greens and fairways that are well kept. If you are already an advanced player then you will seek Vancouver’s most demanding courses in order to test every facet of your game.

In Vancouver you can choose from an array of private and public courses that fit all levels of expertise.  Public courses are open to most everyone who wants to play whereas private clubs have criteria for joining. If you play often then you may want to consider investing in a membership to a private club.  Private courses often offer faster play than public courses, particularly on weekends.  Also, most golf clubs in Vancouver have a golf professional available to give lessons to members.

Other considerations include what else the facility offers.  Do you want access to a driving range and a teaching area? Do you want the golf facility to have a restaurant so that you can enjoy a meal or a drink?  Do you want to stay close to home or are you willing to travel some?

Whatever you decide do not play on golf courses that are in poor condition, because playing on bad fairways and greens will not improve your game.
